Palm Bract XS
£4.00
Palm bracts, the protective leaf structures found on palm species, are used in aquariums as a natural botanical to enrich the environment, enhance water quality, and add aesthetic appeal. They can be used to replicate South American morichales or Asian palm plantations, habitats where many aquarium species are found in the wild. Their unique texture and structure provide hiding spots, promote natural foraging behaviors, reduce stress, and contribute to a visually interesting and biologically stimulating aquarium environment. As the bracts slowly release tannins and polyphenols, they help gently lower pH and inhibit harmful bacterial and fungal growth.
Note: You will receive one palm bract per order.
Adding botanicals to your aquarium will result in the release of humic substances, which will lower the pH of the aquarium water, act as an antibacterial and antifungal agent, and also lower the heavy metal content of the water. It is widely accepted that it acts as a spawning trigger and can aid in the recovery of any fish damaged through stress or fighting. The leaves will naturally float, but most will sink within 24 hours or so. There are no rules for how much to add, so some care and an element of trial and error based on different leaf types is required.
