Palm Bark
£4.50
Palm bark, harvested from the trunks of various palm species, is used in aquariums as a natural botanical to enhance water quality, enrich the environment, and add aesthetic appeal. As the bark slowly releases tannins, flavonoids, and other phenolic compounds, it helps gently lower pH, inhibit harmful bacterial and fungal growth, and replicate natural habitats where many aquarium species are found, such as South American morichales, tropical rainforests, or palm plantations. Its rugged texture provides hiding spots, encourages natural foraging behaviors, reduces stress, and contributes to a visually interesting and biologically stimulating aquarium environment.
Note: You will receive one piece of palm bark per order.
Adding botanicals to your aquarium will result in the release of humic substances, which will lower the pH of the aquarium water, act as an antibacterial and antifungal agent, and also lower the heavy metal content of the water. It is widely accepted that it acts as a spawning trigger and can aid in the recovery of any fish damaged through stress or fighting. The leaves will naturally float, but most will sink within 24 hours or so. There are no rules for how much to add, so some care and an element of trial and error based on different leaf types is required.
