Gustavia Leaf XL

£4.00

Gustavia leaves can be found across the Amazon basin, particularly in the wet tropical biome. They are a rare and unique aquarium botanical available exclusively through Naturekind Ltd. As the leaves slowly decompose, they release tannins and other natural compounds that help gently lower pH, suppress harmful microbial growth, and replicate the shaded, leaf-littered habitats where many freshwater species naturally occur. Their distinctive form adds visual interest to aquascapes while providing hiding spaces and foraging areas for fish, shrimps, and other small aquatic organisms. By recreating aspects of authentic Amazonian stream and forest floor environments, Gustavia augusta leaves contribute both aesthetic value and ecological enrichment to the aquarium.

Note: You will receive one large Gustavia leaf per order.

Adding dead leaves will result in the release of humic substances, which will lower the pH of the aquarium water, act as an antibacterial and antifungal agent, and also lower the heavy metal content of the water. It is widely accepted that it acts as a spawning trigger and can aid in the recovery of any fish damaged through stress or fighting. The leaves will naturally float, but most will sink within 24 hours or so. There are no rules for how much to add, so some care and an element of trial and error based on different leaf types is required.
